Kabaung Dam and Phyu Chaung Dam Project, Union of Myanmar

Based on The Study for Development of Sittan River Watershed which was conducted by U.N. study team in 1964, Department of Irrigation of Myanmar commenced detail design and construction in 2001. Consulting services were rendered for investigation, design and supervision of works for Department of Irrigation. Kabaung dam is a homogeneous type dam, with 76m height and was constructed on sand layer foundation, which is not common. The crest length is 300m and capacity of the reservoir is 0.9 billion cubic meter, maximum output of power generation is 30 MW and the irrigated area is more than 54,000 ha. Phyu Chaung dam is a zone type dam, constructed on tertiary soft rock with75m height. Its length is 350m, capacity of reservoir is 1.1 billion cubic meter, maximum output of power generation is 65 MW and the irrigated area is 59,000 ha. During the construction of these dams, technical transfer on various items as construction of tunnels, liquefaction countermeasure and utilization of soft rocks etc. was performed to the techincal staff of the Department of Irrigation.
