Preparing farm plot reallocation plan by government staff
The present government inaugurated in March 2011 emphasizes importance of the agriculture sector for the purpose of poverty reduction as well as food security for the Country. However, due to shortage of budget allocation under the former government, irrigation systems of such projects have seriously been deteriorated year after year. Consequently, Irrigation Department can now hardly operate the irrigation systems as planned and the farmers have been facing difficulties in obtaining irrigation water in time and in terms of quantity.Objective of the Project was to increase agriculture production through recovery of the area of the irrigated land by rehabilitating the irrigation systems, whereby contributing to food security and livelihood improvement of the people concerned. Towards the project objective achieved, this Survey aimed at formulating a rehabilitation plan and also examining the feasibility based upon the project cost and benefit.In addition, farmland consolidation was also one of the project components to be examined under the Survey. Farmland consolidation was carried out together with the establishment of irrigation and drainage network including farm roads. This farmland consolidation facilitates, aside from increasing harvest thanks to the irrigation and drainage network established, farm mechanization given leveled and consolidated farmland composed of number of rectangular shaped plots. A pilot project, as a model case, was planned to implement in Nay Pyi Taw.
