Participatory Watershed Management and Local Government Project, Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal
(2009|2014)
Woman group is discussing how to improve their own fund management in Wahakithanti Village, Parbat District.
Villagers are giving feedback to the project on the outcome of 5 years.

In hilly areas of Nepal, a vicious cycle of watershed degradation and poverty has been accelerated. In order to improve this vicious cycle, SABIHAA Model has been promoted. SABIHAA Model has a mechanism of promoting local people to participate at all stages of community resource management and community development by strengthening Local Governance. On the other hand, Government of Nepal has been promoting decentralization process and authority for the development activities in the local level has been given to the local bodies in the district levels. Nevertheless, coordination mechanism development among district level line agencies and local bodies to respond local peoplefs various needs has been still long way to be effective level.
Therefore, it is required to establish the effective coordination mechanism for the effective implementation of local development activities including watershed management by introducing SABIHAA model in wider areas. SABIHAA manual which has been formed under this project received high evaluation as a practical manual and it was officially approved by the Government of Nepal. Government of Nepal internalized the manual into their own budget as their technical standard.
