In Bulgaria, moves toward democratization from 1989 caused a collapse of the previously centralized economy on a grand scale. Aiming at transition to market economy, privatization of land ownership and public enterprises was well on the way but agricultural productivity was falling down in rural areas due to a collapse of collective farming system. Under such circumstances, Sanyu Consultants had offered a new paradigm for agricultural development in a transforming country, such as enhancement of farmers’ organizations or water utilization associations, and streamlining of its distribution channels.
