Survey Project for the Water Supply System of the Greater Cairo, Arab Republic of Egypt
(1975|1985)
This was SCI's first project of city water supply engaged in overseas countries. For dealing with the water shortage of the metropolitan area around Cairo with rapid population growth, it was planned to supply water of 3,600-5,500 ton per hour to Cairo city. Chronic poor transportation condition of the Cairo city was quite serious during the construction, thus, the pipe jacking method, new technique at that time in Egypt was selected, anticipating that laying the pipe under the road with excavation judged to be impossible in view of traffic problems.
