Taleghan Multipurpose Water Resources Development Project, Islamic Republic of Iran

The consulting services for this project had been carried out in the full stage covering feasibility study, detailed design, international tender, construction supervision and operation/management after project completion and with full responsibility during 10 years under the Ministry of Water and Power, Iranian Government. The project outline is as follows;

-Objective of the project is to divert the Taleghan river water flowing down in Elburuz mountain to Ghazvin plain by transbasin and to use if for the irrigated agriculture development of 70,000 ha and for the domestic and industrial water in Ghazvin city.

-In accordance with the project, the Ghazvin plain had changed to totally green area from desert area and became the important food supply base in the Tehran capital area at present.

-Project is composed of the facilities requiring the special high technology in 1960s such as the large scale concrete diversion barrage with 15 m height constructed on sand and gravel river bed with 30 m depth, long distance tunnel of 9 km passing through Taleghan mountain with elevation of 2,000 m and water management of irrigation water in the canal with a length of 100 km and under-ground water in the deep wells of 200 units. In addition, telemetering system to monitor and remote control the Taleghan water by computer was introduced first time in the middle east.
