Unilahi- Murandava Groundwater Development Project, Democratic Republic of Madagascar
(1995|1996)
Murandava area, approximately 33,000 km2, is located in the northwest of Madagascar Island. This area belongs to semi-dry climate and only 8.5 % of the population enjoyed safety water.
To improve this situation, groundwater potential of this area was evaluated through various hydrogeological surveys.
Then, as pilot project, water supply facilities (Level I) were planned and constructed in several villages. Also water users associations were established through participatory approach in these villages.
Depending on feedback from pilot project, sustainable water supply plans for each village up to 2005 were formulated to improve water supply services both in quality and quantity.
