| Medium-Size Dams Irrigation Project in Masvingo Province, Republic of Zimbabwe | |||

| Since 1980’sNation's independence, the government of Zimbabwe has promoted the communal land development in semi-arid area where used to be under the very poor agricultural practices. In line with the policy, a project of the medium size dams with irrigation facilities was implemented by Japanese technical and financial support. The project consisted of 5 phases. Construction equipments and machines for medium dams and irrigation facilities were provided in phase 1. During phases 2-5, six dams and irrigation facilities were constructed and water users’ organizations were established and strengthened. Accordingly, planting and selling the vegetables by women’s groups during the dry season was enabled. The project has largely contributed to the increase of income and advancement of women’s status. | |||
