Master Plan for National Water Resources Management Project, Republic of Ivory Coast
(1999|2001)
The primary water resources are 11 rivers and groundwater in Cote d'Ivoire. In 1970f when they enjoyed sound economic growth, they had developed large dams purposed for hydro-power generation and irrigation, and also small scale reservoirs for livestock. However they had not established an overarching water resource development and management plan, and hence sound and balanced/sustainable of such water resource utilization has become a critical issue in this sector to date. Now there are needs to institutionalize sound water utilization, sound allocation amongst competing sectors taking into account sustainable water resource management to endow future generations as well. Under such needs, the Study formulated a master plan targeting year 2015 for the purpose of rationalizing national water resources.
