| The Study for Sustainable Forest Management Project in Northern Reserve Area, People's Republic of Benin | |||

| The Study has conducted a survey to prepare basic information of the forestry sector and formulate a forest management plan with participatory approach, aiming to prevent the desertification of northern area of Benin. The target area was about 1 million ha which includes about 550,000 ha of three preservation forests and 7 km boundary area of the preservation forests. The Study aimed to prepare a draft of the Government Forest Management Plan, which required discussion between the Government of Benin and the people, and contract with the people to be approved. Therefore, it was necessary for the people to confirm the Forest Management Plan by themselves. Further, this Study has paid attention to raise interests of the people for the management and developing a forest management plan, based on the current socio-economic and environmental conditions of the natural resources. |
