National Animal Husbandry Improvement Project, Republic of Bolivia
(1988|1990)
In vast plains of Bolivia forming a part of the Amazon River basin, cattle fattening and the dairy farming have been practiced through making use of natural grass resource. However, productivity of beef type cattle and milk cows is generally low. Therefore it was required to promote breed improvement through artificial insemination. Several bull sheds, diagnostic room, semen collection and processing rooms were constructed in the attached experimental farm of the Gabriel Rene Moreno University aiming at improving productivity of cattle and dairy cow in and around the experimental farm by inseminating frozen semen processed in the constructed Artificial Insemination Center. After the completion of the model infrastructure project, grant project was also implemented in order to promote livestock industry, which is major industry of the region.
